Knowing that I needed cataract surgery on both of my eyes, I had the pleasure to meet with Dr. Daroszewske and he confirmed the diagnosis. He did my worst eye first and I had no pain following the surgery. He said I would have cloudy vision for a few days to a couple of weeks - mine was gone the next morning. I have gone to NE Ohio Eye Surgeons for years and urge everyone to do the same.
This facility is absolutely the best! Very clean and easily accessible! The staff were all friendly and courteous! Dr. Daniel Daroszewski was very patient and explained all details.
Great patient care. Really listened and gave professional advice. Considerate and knowledgeable-She is a doctor that I trust. Glad I was referred to her.
Terrible experience! I was quoted a specific price and was over charged $492.00 Do not trust this business! Also, I scheduled an early morning appointment 7:45 and was not seen until 10:20 when I left the examination room and said I was at that point - out of time and had to go to work.
Went in to see several Dr.'s at Northeast Ohio Eye Surgeons. After two or three appointments I was asked to see a surgeon. He recommended cataract surgery in both eyes. Talked me into the option that was NOT covered by Medicare and each eye would cost about $2,500 each! Said that while he could not guarantee it, I "should" be able to read the paper without glasses, eliminate night glare and see from a distance much better. None of these things improved after spending almost $5,000.00 out of pocket. I should have gone with the simpler surgery that was covered by Medicare and would have cost only $450.00. I was told I should live with it if my vision doesn't get any better, which after one year it continues to get worse. The last visit I had with the surgeon, he said I had floaters that may have resulted from the cataract surgery and now I needed to see another specialist for a possible vitrectomy surgery. Waste of money and my eyesight is worse than before, almost like I am looking through wax paper at times. Can be dangerous to drive. The only upside is the staff including Dr.'s are friendly and seem to care, but in my case that didn't help!
What Is Corneal Scarring?
The cornea is typically clear and transparent, allowing light to pass into the eye. The cornea bends light to help focus images on the retina in the back of the eye. Corneal abrasion is either opacity or irregularity in the cornea that can limit the cornea’s ability to accurately focus light. Not all eye scars affect vision. If a scar is on the outer edges of the cornea, it may not alter the vision at all. However, if an eye scar is in the central cornea, over the pupil, it may cause a significant loss of vision.
Diseases of the cornea or eye surfaces such as Keratoconus or Severe Dry Eye
Keratoconus- A condition where the cornea thins and bulges into a cone shape, causing distorted vision and light sensitivity.
Dry Eye- A common condition where the eyes don’t produce enough tears, leading to irritation, redness, and discomfort.
Common Corneal Scarring Symptoms
Blurred Vision
Light Sensitivity
Pain
Eyelid Swelling
The feeling that something is in your eye
How Do You Know If You Have an Eye Scar?
Most corneal scars are easy to diagnose during a routine eye exam. They look like a white opacity in the normally clear cornea. Sometimes, corneal scars are visible to the naked eye. Some types of scars are more difficult to detect.
Scars that change the shape of the cornea, making the surface more irregular, may not be apparent to your doctor with a routine exam. In these cases, a corneal topography may aid in the diagnosis.
Corneal Topography
Corneal topography is like a topographical map of the cornea that shows if the surface is misshapen or irregular. A corneal scar may not change over time, particularly if was caused by an injury or infection.
However, some scars on eye can worsen over months and years if they are associated with underlying eye diseases. It is important to determine the cause of scarring in order to prevent scarring from worsening over time.
Corneal Abrasion Treatment
The cornea specialists at NEOES can diagnose corneal abrasion and have many treatments available to help improve and restore vision. For milder eye scars, glasses alone may improve the vision. If a scar is more severe glasses may not help and special contact lenses may be very useful in improving vision.
RGP (Rigid Gas Permeable) and scleral lenses are contact lenses that are stiffer than ordinary lenses and they create a new, smoother surface to the cornea that can dramatically improve the vision. The doctors at Northeast Ohio Eye Surgeons have extensive experience with these lenses and lecture nationally regarding their use in improving vision.
Scleral Contact Lenses
In severe cases of eye scarring, the vision may not improve with the use of contact lenses. In these situations, a corneal transplant can be considered within our cornea center. With a transplant, your ophthalmologist replaces all or part of your diseased cornea with healthy donor cornea tissue. The surgeons at Northeast Ohio Eye Surgeons use the most advanced techniques for corneal transplantation for corneal abrasions, such as DALK and PK. DALK (Deep Anterior Lamellar Keratoplasty) preserves the innermost layer of the cornea, provides a speedier recovery, and prevents transplant rejection.
