Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank

At Northeast Ohio Eye Surgeons our mission stems beyond our patients and into the local community. Food insecurity in Akron-Canton is higher than the national rate affecting 13.5% of people. Over the last 3 years we have strived to be a part of the relief efforts provided by the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank.  

The Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank has been providing food and other essential items to eight counties for nearly 40 years. As a member of Feeding America’s hunger-relief network, the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank is one of 200 food banks and 60,000 food pantries and meal programs that together, provide food assistance to more than 40 million people in the U.S. struggling with hunger. In 2018, the network helped provide access to food for 24.5 million meals in partnership with its local network.

In Akron-Canton alone, food insecurity affects over 200,000 people. Over the past year, the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank distributed over 8 million pounds of fresh produce to those in need. As a partner to the Foodbank, Northeast Ohio Eye Surgeons supports their mission to engage and convene our community in the fight to end hunger.

Each quarter, NEO Eyes volunteers to repackage thousands of pounds of food for redistribution to those in need. To date, NEO Eyes has helped to serve over 50,000 people in the Akron-Canton Network. Additionally, NEO Eyes works with the Bulldog Bags program of the Stow-Munroe Falls Lion Club to do our part in ending childhood hunger.
