What Are Good Eye Exercises to Improve Vision?
For optimal health, you should work out every muscle in your body, so why not work out your eye muscles? These eye exercises can strengthen your eyes, and they also provide a break from screens and time to blink, which improves your vision as well.
Exercise #1: Basic Eye Roll
The basic eye roll is similar to a basic stretch, and it’s a great way to warm up your eye muscles. First, turn off or look away from any screens. Look at a blank wall if you can, sit up straight, and gently roll your eyes to the left. Then gently roll your eyes to the right. Repeat.
Exercise #2: The Eye Press
This exercise will help you relieve pressure on your eyes. Close your eyes and press gently on your eyelids for 10 seconds. Let go for three seconds and repeat. Do this 10 times.
Exercise #3: Mr. Miyagi
Mr. Miyagi, the karate sensei in the Karate Kid movie franchise, would rub his hands together to generate therapeutic heat and use it when massaging his students’ injuries. A warm compress for your eyes works in a similar way.
Rub your hands together to warm up your palms and then rest your palms over your closed eyes. The warmth will provide relief to tired eyes, as well as boost tear production to lubricate dry eyes.
Exercise #4: Eye Graffiti
Look at a blank wall and pretend that your eyes are aerosol spray paint cans. Use your eyes to “paint” words on the wall and then retrace those words. Do this for about 30 seconds and then take a 10-second break. Repeat this process for two to three minutes.
Cool Down: Slow Blinks
To reset and refocus your eyes, look at a blank wall and slowly close your eyes. Keep them closed for 20 seconds. Then open them slowly and repeat this process. Do this 20 times.
