Senator Roy Ray
Mr. Roy Ray, the former Ohio State Senator and Mayor of Akron, is no stranger to vision difficulties. Prior to becoming a patient of Northeast Ohio Eye Surgeons, Mr. Ray looked to University Hospitals 20 years earlier. At University Hospitals, he underwent bilateral corneal transplant surgery for keratoconus in both eyes. His procedure was successful and his vision was restored for many years until he was diagnosed with glaucoma and a dense cataract three years ago.
Seeking a solution to his failing vision, Mr. Ray came to Northeast Ohio Surgeons. He had limited vision in his left eye due to a developed cataract and also had limited vision in his right eye due to prior optic nerve damage. Our award-winning cataract surgeon, Dr. Marc Jones, performed cataract surgery on Mr. Ray’s left eye. This surgery was a very delicate and difficult procedure due to the risk of possible damage to previous transplant cells. Before Dr. Jones’ surgery, Mr. Ray could see very little – daily tasks such as driving or grocery shopping proposed challenges. After a smooth recovery, Mr. Ray’s surgery proved to be a success with no subsequent damage to the existing transplant!
Post-cataract surgery with Dr. Jones, Mr. Ray was then referred to Dr. Katie Greiner for scleral contact lenses in both eyes, due to his irregular cornea shape from keratoconus. Through Dr. Greiner’s guidance, Mr. Ray’s vision in his left eye with his new lens is now 20/20, and vision in his right eye is greatly improved.
“I’m so grateful to Dr. Jones for his knowledge and skill, as well as his kindness and understanding,” states Mr. Ray. “Finally, after a 20 year battle of vision difficulties, I can see clearly. I would recommend this practice to anyone in need of first-rate eye treatment.”
