Have you been recently diagnosed with cataracts?
As the leading cause of vision loss for those under 40, cataracts shouldn’t be left untreated. At Northeast Ohio Eye Surgeons, we offer multiple cataract packages. All cataract surgeries involve replacing your eye’s natural lens with an intraocular lens (IOL). With the new artificial lens, your once-cloudy vision caused by the cataract will become clear again. However, not all IOLs can correct vision issues, such as astigmatism. This can be an issue because studies have shown that 75% of cataract patients have significant astigmatism. This is where Vivity Lens comes in…
We’re happy to announce a new cataract lens implant called the Vivity Lens for cataract surgery. This new cataract lens implant has several vision benefits, including the correction of astigmatism. Learn more about the Vivity Lens in cataract treatment and determine if you’re a candidate for the Vivity IOL.
What is the Vivity Lens?
The Vivity Lens is an artificial lens used to replace your cataract-affected lens. Using non-diffractive technology called the X-Wave, the Vivity Lens provides patients with improved long-distance, intermediate, and near vision. Like other IOLs, the Vivity Lens works by bending incoming light, allowing the light to focus on the retina. By refocusing the light, you’ll notice your cloudy or blurry vision becoming clear.
How is the Vivity Cataract Lens Different From Other Premium Cataract Implants?
So, what makes the Vivity Lens so unique? Patients have reported vision disturbances with other types of multifocal or trifocal IOLs, such as seeing halos, starbursts, and glare. These vision disturbances can affect the safety of what you do, like driving at night.
However, patients who have had the Vivity Lens are not affected by visual disturbances. The X-Wave technology used in Vivity Lenses uses all available light, creating a continuous range of vision. The Vivity IOL can also protect your eyes from damaging UV rays and blue light waves from digital screens. Other premium cataract lenses do not offer UV or blue light protection.
Am I a Candidate for the Vivity Lens?
The best way to find out if you’re a candidate for the Vivity Lens is through an evaluation. At our Cataract Center, we use state-of-the-art technology to evaluate your eyes that will determine your candidacy. The Vivity Lens may not be suitable for patients with autoimmune conditions or vulnerability to infections. However, many ophthalmologists have successfully implanted the Vivity Lens on patients with glaucoma and macular disorders. Need more information before you make a decision? Speak with our doctors to find the right solution for your cataracts.
What Can the Vivity Lens Correct?
Vivity delivers excellent distance, intermediate (arm’s length), and functional near vision (cell phone). Putting on makeup, reading a book, and working on a computer can be difficult for someone with cataracts. However, after your surgeon implants the Vivity Lens, you’ll be able to enjoy all those activities without visual disturbances. You can even have your astigmatism corrected using the Vivity Lens. Vivity Lens and IOL Safety
At Northeast Ohio Eye Surgeons, our patient’s safety is our top priority. We only offer proven treatments and surgeries—and the Vivity Lens is no exception. The Vivity Lens was FDA approved in September 2020 and has been approved and implanted overseas for much longer.
Cost of Vivity Lens
Unfortunately, most insurance plans—including Medicare—don’t cover most premium cataract implants, such as Vivity. Your insurance should cover the actual cataract surgery, but you’ll need to confirm it to be sure. If you still want the visual benefits of a premium cataract lens, such as the Vivity Lens, you may want to consider paying out of pocket to reap its benefits.
You don’t have to make this decision alone. Schedule an appointment to discuss your options so we can help find the proper treatment for you.
