What Is Conjunctivitis?
Conjunctivitis (pink eye) is an infection of the transparent membrane that lines your eyelid and covers the white part of your eyeball. When the tiny blood vessels in the conjunctiva become inflamed, they’re more visible. These inflamed vessels are what cause the whites of your eyes to appear reddish or pink.
Symptoms of pink eye:
- Inflammation
- Red eye
- Discharge
- Eye, tearing
- Itching
- Crusting
How Do You Get Pink Eye?
Pink eye is typically caused by either a bacterial or viral infection or allergies. Because pink eye can be highly contagious, contact our office immediately if you suspect you, or a loved one, may have contracted it.
Pink Eye Treatment
If you suspect you have pink eye and wear contact lenses, you should stop wearing your contacts immediately. After determining the cause of your pink eye, the doctor may treat it with antibiotics, antiviral medications, or allergy medicine, depending on the cause.
